Crystal Quest City Water Test Kits

Crystal Quest has partnered with National Testing Laboratories, a trusted leader in water analysis, to provide reliable city water testing for homes and buildings. Each kit screens for a broad range of contaminants. Checking up to 20 heavy metals, 7 inorganic chemicals, 4 physical factors, and more—to give you a clear picture of your water quality. Testing is simple and convenient: just collect your sample and return it for analysis.

Why Test Your Water?

City water is regulated and treated, but contaminants can still enter your supply through distribution systems, plumbing, or aging infrastructure. Testing helps identify issues that may go unnoticed, such as:

  • Lead – Can leach from old pipes and cause developmental and neurological problems.
  • Inorganic Chemicals (Nitrate, Fluoride, Chloride, etc.) – Excessive levels may cause health issues, especially for infants and those with health conditions.
  • Copper– From household plumbing, linked to stomach distress and liver or kidney damage.
  • Volatile Organic Compounds (Benzene, Vinyl Chloride, TCE, PCE, etc.) – Industrial solvents and chemicals linked to cancer and organ damage

Routine testing gives you peace of mind and ensures your water is as safe as it should be. Our kits include simple, step-by-step instructions for easy use at home.

Sampling Instructions - Please Read Before Starting

Step 1

After the blue ice pack has been in your freezer for at least 8 hours, you can collect your water sample from an appropriate water faucet or spigot. If the spout has a strainer or aerator, remove it prior to sampling

Step 2

Samples must be shipped the same day they are collected via guaranteed next day delivery and must be collected after 1:00 p.m. EST to minimize time in transit. Do not collect and/ or ship your samples on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday, or the day before a National Holiday.

Fill all of the bottles, in order from 1 to 5 as shown in the picture to the right.

Fill all of the bottles as shown in the picture to the right & do not rinse any bottles.
500ml Plastic Bottle - Fill to the shoulder and replace the cap securely.
125ml Square Glass Bottle - Fill to the shoulder and replace the cap securely.

40ml & 60 ml Vials - Fill each of the two 40 mL glass vials in such a way that a "dome" of water stands above the rim [see picture]. This can be done easily if you reduce the water flow to a slow stream. Replace the cap securely, but do not over tighten. Tip the vial upside down and check for air bubbles. If you see an air bubble, remove the cap and slowly add more water to displace the air bubble. Recap the vial and check again for air bubbles. Repeat this step until you do not see any air bubbles.

Step 3A

Complete the enclosed lab form, making sure to indicate the collection date and time you sampled, type of water, and sample identification (e.g. kitchen sink, well head, etc.) Return the blue ice pack to the kit and place the kit back in the cardboard box with the completed lab form.

Step 3B

Make arrangements to ship the kit by guaranteed next day delivery [or drop the kit off at our laboratory within 24 hours of collection, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm] to the following address:

National Testing Laboratories
556 South Mansfield Street
Ypsilanti, MI 48197

If we do not receive your sample within 24 hours of sample collection or if you have not provided the date and time of collection, the bacteria results will be marked INVALID!
