Nitrate Removal Filter Cartridge
Nitrate (NO3) comes into water supplies through the nitrogen cycle rather than via dissolved minerals. It is one of the major ions in natural waters. Most nitrate in drinking water is the result of contamination of groundwater supplies by septic systems, feedlots, and agricultural fertilizers. Nitrate is reduced to nitrite in the body. These cartridges contain a special nitrate-selective resin. Nitrate reduction is 90% to 95% and breakthrough is not affected by sulfate levels.
Important Note: The cartridge(s) in this system require manual salinity regeneration. The media must be recharged in order to maintain optimum performance. If the media is not regenerated, then the media will exhaust and result in a permeate of 0. The cycle of regeneration will vary based on the influent level of contaminants.
The process of regeneration involves dissolving salt in water (2-3 cups of salt for every 3-4 cups of water) stir well and soak (you may want to use something to hold the cartridge down) the cartridge for 1-2 hours, then soak the cartridge in tap water for an additional 1-2 hours, rinse with the tap running tap water and reinstall the cartridge. Regeneration is not required before its first use even if the cartridge has been unopened for a period of time.

My true rating is ZERO stars!! I have been using a Crystal Quest countertop 2-filter system (Smart & Nitrates) since last fall in my kitchen (I didn't install it as soon as I received it in 2019 as I was temporarily using a Crystal Quest portable disposable Smart+Nitrate all-in-one unit); however, it was not in use during a 3-month+ trip over the winter and late fall. It's only a 1-person household. About 1 gallon a day. I just received shipment of a new set of cartridges today. Separately today, I ALSO received an order of Nitrate test strips. I didn't use the strips until I replaced the new Nitrate cartridge. Flushed the water through per instructions, then tested with the Nitrate strips. Was was shocked. NO NITRATE WAS FILTERED AT ALL!! I checked to be sure by testing the raw water from the faucet. SAME color on the strip. I tested an unopened large Arrowhead water, which showed maybe 1-ish ppm Nitrate (which coincides with an Arrowhead online water report I had seen in 2019). I then tested an unopened Alkaline 88 gallon of purified water with a small amt of salt, which showed ZERO Nitrates per the color on the strip. So, I flushed the Crystal Quest system for a bit longer just to make sure. The next Nitrate strip test came out AGAIN the SAME nitrates (per color) as the unfiltered water. I AM CRUSHED THAT I HAVE BEEN DRINKING FULL NITRATE WATER AT 4.9 to 5PPM OR ABOVE FOR THE LAST YEAR THINKING IT WAS BEING FILTERED. Now I don't trust ANY water filter company. I WANT MY MONEY BACK CRYSTAL QUEST!! I WANT MY MONEY BACK! I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Purchased property in 1987; well water had 2.4mg/l nitrate. Water tested in 2020 because of fish tank problems; nitrate level increased to 10mg/l over 30 years. The EPA maximum level for nitrates is 10mg/l. After significant researching I purchased a 4.5"x20" nitrate filter and installed the filter housing in the basement. I picked Crystal Quest because the rated flow capacity of the filters was much higher than other brands. I ran new CPVC piping from the filter housing to the refrigerator and kitchen sink. Originally I was going to add a filtered water faucet to the kitchen sink but decided to just connect it to the cold water side of the regular faucet. The flow rate of the kitchen faucet is well below the max 6 GPM rate for the filter which provided excellent contact time. Initial tests of the water after flushing matched the chart color for 0 nitrates. At my contamination level the cartridge should last for a year with a daily use of 5 gallons. I also installed a GAC filter after the nitrate filter. The taste of the water from the refrigerator has significantly improved.
Always a great experience and a high quality product. Very satisfied as a customer.
I've bought nitrate filters from a different company which was comparable to yours. When I checked the nitrate level it hardly changed. When I bought the nitrate filters from Crystal Quest the nitrates we're almost zero. So thank you very much
The filter was easy to install, looks nice and is so much easier to use than a pitcher filter that we previously used. Such a pleasure to have water available at the tap.
