• When: typically every 12 to 24 months, about 18 months for most homes. On chlorinated city water, change them once a year as best practice because they protect the membranes. Replace sooner if taste, odor, flow or pressure changes. Actual life depends on feed water quality, system configuration and usage.
• Watch the gauges: replace when the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet gauges has grown well beyond its reading with new cartridges.
• Change all three at once, with the system shut down and the feed water off.
• Membranes: plan on 2 to 3 years, and flush the system weekly.

How to replace it

1. Shut down the RO system and turn off its feed water before opening the pre-filter housings.
2. Unscrew each pre-filter housing and remove the used cartridge.
3. Install the new cartridges inlet first: sediment, then SMART, then carbon block.
4. Check that each housing O-ring sits properly in its groove, then reinstall the housings.
5. Turn the feed water back on, check for leaks and restart the system as its manual directs.
